Local Student Performs Sell-Out Plays at The Brunswick Art Gallery

The Brunswick Art Gallery recently played host to three exceptional, unique, performances titled ‘Cinderella Reborn’ created by seventeen-year-old drama student, Christos Lazari. The free plays were performed on Friday 12th January and Saturday 13th January, with an attendance of over 100 people at each event. A third play on the Saturday was actually arranged last minute to cope with high demand. The plays were incredibly successful, with heavy applauses from a delighted audience on both days.

 

 

Christos wrote the play, assembled the cast and had the idea of performing to children from Great Ormond Street Hospital, a children’s clinic hospital that provides specialty care to children with serious or long-term illnesses. Hosting a free theatre event was a great way to give back to the local community and help inspire others about the joys of theatre. Christos approached the director of the Brunswick Art Gallery, John Themis, who was happy for the play to take place within the gallery on both dates.

The reaction to the performances from attendees was incredible. For such a young person to create something like this from scratch is outstanding. His peers, cast and audience were extremely grateful for this opportunity and the goal is for Christos to host more free shows of this nature in the future inside the Brunswick Art Gallery.

 

 

Christos Lazari said, “Drama has always been a fundamental part of who I am. I cannot imagine my life without it, and I am incredibly grateful for the experiences it has brought me. The feeling of seeing something you created come to life on stage is truly incredible and the thought of being able to bring a smile to the face of a child, who may be going through a difficult time, meant the world to me.”

Christos continued, “Anticipating the future, I am already in the process of brainstorming ideas for my next play. The lessons learned from staging this initial production have been invaluable, and I look forward to applying them to my upcoming projects.”

 

John Themis, Director of the Brunswick Art Gallery said, “These were outstanding performances – I can’t believe how young Christos is to have created something so bold, original and enchanting. You can see how passionate he is for this industry, and I expect Christos will be a name to watch in the theatre and film world in the not-so-distant future.”
