Hamlet Comes to The Brunswick This July

Between 4 – 7 July, audiences are invited to step inside the fractured mind of one of Shakespeare’s most iconic characters as an ambitious new production of Hamlet arrives at The Brunswick.

Created by emerging theatre-maker Christos Lazari, this experimental and immersive interpretation reimagines Shakespeare’s tragedy through a contemporary lens, placing audiences at the heart of Hamlet’s psychological unravelling.

In this bold retelling, Hamlet is pressured to avenge his father’s murder and reclaim the family business. Caught between duty and personal desire, he must decide whether to become the man his father destined him to be or forge his own path. The production explores themes of identity, expectation, grief, and power, offering a fresh perspective on a timeless story.

What sets this production apart is its immersive staging. Rather than remaining seated throughout, audiences will be guided through three distinct performance spaces, each revealing a different layer of Hamlet’s journey. The result is an intimate, surreal, and often unsettling theatrical experience that blurs the boundaries between performer and spectator.

Designed for audiences aged 13 and above, the production embraces an innovative approach to storytelling while remaining rooted in the emotional complexity and dramatic intensity that have made Hamletone of Shakespeare’s most enduring works.

Supporting the Next Generation of Theatre

Following each performance, audiences will have the opportunity to support Stage One, a UK charity dedicated to developing the next generation of theatre producers. Through training, mentoring, and industry connections, Stage One helps emerging producers bring bold new productions to life. Donations made after the show will directly contribute to creating opportunities for early-career theatre-makers and ensuring that innovative new voices continue to thrive within the industry.
