CONCRETE IN LIFE EXHIBITION AT THE BRUNSWICK ART GALLERY

The Brunswick Art Gallery in Bloomsbury is thrilled to announce that the Global Cement and Concrete Association’s (GCCA) annual photographic competition, Concrete in Life, will be exhibiting in the gallery until 13th April, open 10.30am to 7.30pm Tuesday to Saturday.

This year’s competition had over 21,000 entries from photographers, both amateur and professional, from across the globe, showcasing a stunningly creative and varied application of concrete in some truly breathtaking environments. From buildings and infrastructure of striking architectural design to crafty interior spaces, places of worship, playgrounds and skateparks (and so much more), this competition highlights just how essential a role concrete plays in our lives.

 

 

To mark the fifth year of the competition, more than 100 outstanding images from all previous years will be on display at the Brunswick Art Gallery. From the thousands of entries, a shortlist of 25 was drawn up for each of the four categories – Urban Concrete, Concrete and Infrastructure, Concrete in Daily Life and Beauty and Design – from which category winners will be announced alongside the overall winner at the opening.

The Brunswick Centre (in which the Brunswick Art Gallery is located) presented the perfect match for this unique exhibition due to its iconic concrete design and rich architectural history. A Grade II listed Brutalist building, the Centre was designed by Patrick Hodgkinson with the help of David Levitt and David Bernstein in the 1960s. It was an iconic prototype for a holistic community, integrating housing, shopping, a medical centre, cinema and office space in a single urban development.
